It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of former Flushing Township Police Chief Brian Christopher Fairchild. Brian passed away at Henry Ford-Detroit on September 2, 2026 after a brief battle with ALS. He was 68 years old.

Brian was born in Flint Michigan on August 27, 1958 to Nancy and Oney Fairchild. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Ferris State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. He spent nearly 30 years in law enforcement in Flushing Township and dedicated his entire life in service to others. Over the course of his career Brian was a part of many causes. He was instrumental in bringing the D.A.R.E. program to Flushing Middle School, he served as a D.A.R.E. officer and school resource officer for many years for Flushing Community Schools. Brian served on many law enforcement committees and volunteered his time to many different organizations over his long career. He was very humble and he put service to his community and his family over himself.

Anyone who knew Brian knew how much he loved boating and camping. One of his favorite things to do was “Pontoon Fridays” where he would take Friday off and go to the lake. Brian lived in a house divided between Michigan and Michigan State. He enjoyed rooting for both teams since his daughters attended both schools. Brian also enjoyed attending NASCAR races with his friends and camping in his RV. One of his favorite places to go was Cadillac, MI he spent his summers camping in Cadillac for more than 40 years. This is an annual tradition he has shown his daughters throughout their lives, and will continue to pass down to his grandson Christopher even in his passing. Brian was very excited to learn that he was going to be a grandpa, and Christopher brought him great joy in the last 10 months. Even when his health was declining, he was still the most caring and loving grandpa to Christopher.

He is survived by his wife Tracy Fairchild of 28 years. His daughters Amanda (Joshua) Fairchild, and Sidney (Austin) Wares. His grandson Christopher Fairchild. His mother Nancy Fairchild and stepmother Judy Fairchild. His siblings Mark Fairchild, Sheryl Erbst, and Teresa Pinder. His canine companion Skky, many nieces and nephews, and several close personal friends. He was preceded in death by his father Oney Fairchild, his sisters Vickie Helman and Robyn Mechanic and his in-laws Charles and Judy McAllister.

Brian was a beloved member of his community and his memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
