Gerald “Jed” Spillane, of Durand, Michigan, passed away on August 13, 2026.
Jed was born in Flint, Michigan, the youngest—and, of course, favorite—son of Loren and Beulah Spillane. He grew up on the Spillane family farm, where he was always getting into mischief with his siblings and cousins. He graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1969.
Shortly after graduating, Jed opened Jed’s Auto Parts in Swartz Creek, followed by Ole Franks Bar in Flint in 1982. He later began a career in insurance, working for more than 30 years at Baker Insurance in Lennon.
Jed’s favorite times were spent with family and friends. He was always the planner of gatherings and truly thrived when surrounded by people. Jed rarely went anywhere without running into a familiar face—or making a new friend. He wouldn’t have had it any other way.
He also enjoyed golfing, playing cards, buying things at auctions and pontooning with wife Renee, his "favorite" niece Kelly and many other friends. Jed loved to stay busy and loved a bit of friendly competition, especially when it involved arm wrestling or beating his nephew and close friend, Max at cribbage.
Jed is survived by his three children, Tonya Bailey; Tera (James) Garrow; and Laura (Corey) Jarbeau; granddaughters Bailey (John Dindia) Samp and Gabrielle (Brent Shafer) Badgley; grandsons Matthew and Jackson Garrow, and Gerren, Liam, and Alex Jarbeau; great-granddaughter Sophia Dindia; siblings Loren (Bub), Robert (Bob) and Carol; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Renee Spillane; grandson, David Badgley; and parents, Loren and Beulah Spillane.
