Kay Elizabeth Huggins, of Flushing, Michigan, age 81, died Saturday, June 26, 2021 at her home. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass will be held at St. Robert Catholic Church 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2021. Fr. Jonathan Perrotta will officiate. Memorial gathering will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church until the time of the service. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Flushing Christian Outreach Center or the St. Robert Tuition Scholarship Fund.
Kay was born in Flint, Michigan on December 7, 1939 to Eleanor (Cubbitt) and William Arthur Sobey I. She married John Rowe Huggins on September 8, 1962. He preceded her in death on May 3, 2019. John and Kay spent their lives raising their family and taking time to travel the country making it to every state at least once frequenting Alaska. They also traveled to different parts of the world including Europe, Austria, Ireland, Canada, Mexico, and Panama. Kay also took a medical work trip to China at one point in her lifetime. She was a devoted wife to her husband, mother to her daughter, and Nana to her grandchildren and all those around her.
Kay was a licensed practitioning nurse for over 30 years. Throughout her nuring career she worked at Mclaren hospital, Genesee Memorial Hospital, Genesys, The Surgery Center, and East Michigan Eye Surgery Center. She was also an active member of St Robert Bellarmine Church and School. She volunteered as a school nurse, homeroom mom, and librarian for countless years there. She was a proud part of a close group of friends who called themselves the Knitwits. Kay was President of the St Robert Catholic Council of Women and President of the Northeast Region of the CCW. She was also the Vice-President of the local Flushing Book Club. Kay spent countless years working craft shows as the owner of Nanas Little Angels and volunteering for funeral luncheons and the Giving Tree at St. Robert Church in her spare time.
Kay is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Ann (Nordman) Terry and son-in-law, James Arthur Terry, Sr.; three grandchildren, Emily Nordman, Grace Nordman, and James Arthur Terry II; brother, William Arthur Sobey II; cousin, Carol Ann King; friend/partner-in-crime, Wendy Krupp; and her dog (baby) Daisy May.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Huggins; parents, Eleanor and William Sobey I; parents-in-law, MaryAnn and Oscar Lawrence Huggins; brothers, Gerald Mesack and Robert Mesack; sister, Joyce Ciesielski; special friend; Sue Robb; and honorary daughter, Angela Foley.
The Catholic funeral service will be held on September 8th.
