RAHMON, Juliette Huda (Aoun) – of Davison, MI, age 77, passed away at home surrounded by her husband and daughters on Saturday, December 11, 2021. Cremation has taken place. To honor her request, there will not be a memorial service. She wanted everyone to remember her alive, smiling, and glorious.
Juliette was born in Haifa, Palestine on October 18, 1944, daughter of the late Michael and Abla (Daher) Aoun. She married the love of her life, Elias Rahmon in 1962. In 1968, they left all their family and made the uncertain journey to Toronto, Canada with two young daughters. They had their third daughter in Canada. Juliette spoke many languages fluently, but her early schooling at the Nun’s Frère school is where she mastered the French language which she used to navigate and build a life in the big city of Toronto. Ten years later, in 1978, they once again left behind family and friends to pursue opportunities in a new country. They immigrated to the United States and were proud to become American citizens. She loved flowers, nature, the outdoors and made a home in Davison, Michigan. Juliette was an expert storyteller, an excellent swimmer and often spoke about her love for the Mediterranean Sea and the hills of Wade el Jmal. She poured all her time and energy into caring for her husband, children, and grandchildren. Juliette was relentless in her generous spirit and gave her whole self to her family and friends. She was patient, humble, charismatic, and intelligent. Juliette was also excited and motivated about learning and enjoyed taking classes at Mott Community College. She enjoyed reading, watching foreign films, classic movies, and documentaries. Juliette taught us all to be caring, generous, open-minded, and open-hearted. She spoiled all those she loved with kindness, affection, and especially her amazing food. No matter how ill she may have felt, she’d work her magic in her kitchen and create the most comforting and flavorful dishes that were full of love. Juliette would pack up her food and make her rounds dropping off meals to her daughters, grandchildren, neighbors, and friends. We were always so blessed to eat her most prized dishes of spinach pies, hummus, tabouli, cousa and grape leaves. She had the fortitude and found the strength to cook for us this Thanksgiving, even though she was too ill to attend herself. Juliette possessed the gift of loving unconditionally. We felt deeply loved. She taught us with her life stories and presence. As life’s journey became challenging, Juliette endured it with grace. She will forever be greatly missed.
Juliette is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Elias Rahmon; her adored daughters, Marcelle Rahmon, Jacqueline Smiley and Christine Ashkar; her beloved sons-in-law, Alan Smiley and Elie Ashkar; her cherished grandchildren, Elias Smiley, Maria Smiley and Nikolai Ashkar. She loved generously and deeply and was so loved by her many family members, neighbors, and friends. Juliette was especially close to her dear friend, Bahira Assaf.
We are so thankful for all the love and support we’ve received.
