Of Flushing, age 89, died, Monday, October 5, 2015 at Genesee Care Center.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church, 4133 Calkins Road, Flint, Father Nabil officiating.

Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mattar will be at the church from 10:30 a.m. Thursday until the time of the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church or the Mattar family for various charities.

Dorothy was born in Hamtramck, Michigan on January 15, 1926, and was a resident of Flint most of her life. On February 23, 1952 she married Woodrow J. Mattar at All Saints Catholic Church in Flint. Dorothy served as a telephone operator during WWII, and had many moving stories to tell.
After raising four children, she worked with the post office as a rural mail carrier for over 20 years, retiring in 1986. Dorothy was an active member of Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church, serving on several committees, and helping with the funding and building of the church on Calkins Road. Dorothy instilled in her children and grandchildren a love of family, joy of life, and an open mindedness and respect for people. She always had a smile, and passed it on to others. Beloved wife of Woody Mattar for 55 years, dear mother of Debra (Robert) Freeman, Woodrow (Brenda) Mattar, Jr., Dr. Jeffrey (Pamela) Mattar and Frank Mattar; loving grandmother to Zack, Amanda, Amy, Megan, Joey, Danielle, Katie, Tony, Hailey and Natalie;
great-grandmother to Noah, Myka, Taylor and Stella; dear sister to Virginia (Astemborski) Page, Jerry (Mickey) Astemborski, Irene (Gene) Mason; sister-in-law to Helen (John) Williams. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Teresa (Piorkowski) Astemborski; husband, Woodrow Mattar and son, Woodrow Mattar, Jr. The family would also like to thank the loving staff at Genesee Care center and friends at Medi Lodge of Grand Blanc.
