Robert A.C. Forbes, 89, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 11 at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Dr. Max B Hayden officiating.
Visitation will be conducted at the funeral home on the same day prior to the service, from noon to 2 p.m.
Bob was born in Flint, Michigan, on June 10, 1936, son of the late A.C. and Lucille (Garant) Forbes. A proud UAW union member, he worked at General Motors’ Metal Fabricating Division in Flint for nearly 40 years, first on the assembly line and then as a long-time shop committeeman. His career mirrored his lifelong love of all things automotive, from classic cars to motorcycles to racing. He was also a skilled woodworker, avid fisherman, and devoted animal lover, with his log home in Millington serving as a sanctuary for his outdoor hobbies. The wooded property was also a haven for him and his wife of 60 years, Yvonne, to entertain their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family. After retirement, Bob served in several roles for Vassar Township, including supervisor, and thoroughly enjoyed his frequent lunches and reunions with his lifelong Bendle High School friends.
He is survived by Yvonne, whom he married on June 26, 1965, as well as sisters Janet (Don) Andis of Millington and Betty Wagner of Flushing.
Surviving children include daughters Robin Burke of Castalian Springs, TN; Debby (Scott) Morrison of Hendersonville, TN; and Toni Wright of Hermitage, TN; sons Brian (Terri) Forbes of Davison; Jim Johnston of Flushing; Steve (Karen) Johnston of Burton; and Mark (Anne) Johnston of Minneapolis. Bob is also survived by 30 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his infant son, Robert Allen Forbes, and daughter, Teresa Marie Johnston.
