BARKER, Eleanor Jane of Goodrich, age 95, died Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Brookdale Assisted Living.
Eleanor was born in Flint, Michigan on January 9, 1931, the daughter of the late Myron and Florence (Blair) Youmans.
On December 16, 1950, she married Robert M. Barker.
Eleanor enjoyed life to the fullest. Golfing into her 80’s, traveling with friends and family, even swimming with the dolphins in Cancun. She walked the Mackinaw Bridge at age 80. Eleanor also loved reading, going to the theater, shopping, bowling and spoiling her grandchildren, always baking their favorite desserts. While raising her five children, she worked full-time retiring from Buick Corporate office after 25 years.
Eleanor was the sweetest person you could meet. She always saw the good in everyone. Her caregivers always commented on how sweet she was and that she always had a smile for them. Many of them called her “grandma”. She will be missed greatly by her family and all who knew her. We are comforted in knowing she is finally reunited with the love of her life. A special thank you to the staff at Brookdale Memory care.
Eleanor leaves behind her children, Sherry Murphy, Denise (Russell) Irvan, Robert (Sherry) William and Carol (Douglas) Shelley;
8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren;
and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, parents and siblings, William, Robert, Jack, Dixie and Louella and grandson, William.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
