Age, 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 17, 2026. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with Darlene's family at martinfuneralhome.com.
Darlene Joy Darling attended Central High School (Class of ’57). She was employed with Michigan Bell Telephone before starting her lifelong career in the education field at the Clio Community Schools (1968-2001) where she served in various capacities: cafeteria aide at Lacure Elementary, library assistant, bus driver, and later, after obtaining her GED while employed at Clio Area Schools, she worked in the office at the Clio Adult Education Program, as how she lovingly described her title, “the donut lady” where she assisted at-risk youth.
In retirement, she enjoyed traveling with the local senior centers, playing Bingo, and just “running the roads.” Darlene was an Elvis-loving, Bob Seger rocking, Tweety Bird fanatic who blessed many in her life. She will be deeply missed. Darlene fostered and rescued kittens and cats since the mid-60s. In honor of her self-proclaimed title of “Cat Lady” memorial contributions may be made to the Genesee County Humane Society.
Darlene is survived by her three children: Tamara Whitley (Dane), Sami Keely, and Darwin “Skip” Orvis (Michelle); her grandchildren: Lindsay Whitley, Ashley Carpenter (Joe), Elias Whitley, Samantha Orvis Perry (Almon), Shyanne Orvis (Aaron DiNapoli), Nicole Orvis and Nathaniel Orvis; her great-grandchildren: Hazel Tew, Josephine Perry, Margaux Perry, Almon Perry III, Colter DiNapoli and Kaia DiNapoli. Darlene is also survived by her dear brother: Ronald Darling; and many precious nieces and nephews.
Darlene was preceded in death by her grandson: Zachary Whitley.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Darlene’s honor late spring/early summer. |
