Virginia Mae Bubin, 94, died January 20, 2024. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 26, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Flint. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Private burial will take place at Bendle Cemetery.
She was born on Anson Gilbert’s pioneer farm on River Road, Flint Township, April 3, 1929. She was the daughter of Ernest Gilbert and Nora (Lumley) Lewis. Virginia was a lifelong resident of Flushing, graduating from Flushing High School in 1946 and had been a trumpet player in the Flushing marching band. She worked for Hamady Brothers as a head cashier for 19 years and then for Sears credit department for another eight years. Virginia was a member of the St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Flint, Flushing Area Senior Center, Flushing Historical Society and participated in the Flushing Follies musical shows. She was a singer in a trio with her sisters and they sang with her father’s band in the 1950s and 1960s performing locally and appeared in a show on the Chesaning Showboat. Virginia was also a lifelong avid fan of the Detroit Tigers.
Virginia had 3 children with her first husband, Richard Dunning, Sr., and later married Francis Bubin in 1986. They were happy together for 37 years until she lost him in September of 2023.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Denise (Dave) Meir; son, Douglas Dunning; daughter-in-law, Eileen McGrath; stepchildren, Patrick Bubin, Phillip (Cherrie) Bubin and Peggy (Bart) Jackson; grandchildren, Richard (Amy) Dunning, III, Shelly (Greg) Nicolai, Matthew Hoffman, Anastasia and Miranda Bubin, Alex and Austin Bubin, Kayla and Kenzi Jackson; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; also many loving nieces and nephews.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Francis; son, Richard Dunning, Jr.; parents; sisters, Marlyn Meetze and Charlene Hull; brother, Ernest Gilbert; and stepson, Paul Bubin. |
