LaGRANGE, Madelon Sue (Schmidt) – of Burton, MI, age 78, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2026. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be on a later date in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Humane Society of Genesee County, in Madelon’s memory.
Madelon was born in Flint, MI on March 18, 1948, daughter of the late Casper and Marie (Chevro) Schmidt. She was a graduate of Kearsley High School and dedicated 35 years of service to AC Delphi before retiring in 2006. Madelon was a kind-hearted and caring woman who found joy in life's simple pleasures, especially feeding the many birds, squirrels, and other critters that visited her yard. More than anything, Madelon cherished the time she spent with her family and friends, creating countless memories that will be treasured forever.
Her family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and residents of Hampton Manor, who became an extended family to Madelon and brought her comfort, companionship, and joy. They also extend their sincere appreciation to Becky, her hospice nurse, and the compassionate team at Best Care Hospice for the exceptional care, kindness, and dignity they provided throughout her journey.
A special and heartfelt thank you is extended to Farmon Childress, whose friendship, support, and unwavering willingness to help over the years meant so much to Madelon and her family. Your kindness and devotion will always be remembered with gratitude.
Madelon's gentle spirit, loving heart, and genuine care for both people and animals will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
Madelon is survived by 4 siblings, Rosalyn (Fred) Boehmke, John (Mary Ann) Schmidt, Merijean (Bill) Boyce and Jay Schmidt; 7 nephews, Joseph Schmidt, Michael (Jennifer) Schmidt, Joshua Schmidt, Anthony Schmidt, Brian Boyce, Daryl (Brenda) Boyce and Kevin Schmidt; niece, Kristy Schmidt; 6 great-nephews, Brenden Sells, John Schmidt, Jacob Schmidt, Thomas Schmidt, Tyler Swartz and Kevin Schmidt Jr.; 5 great-nieces, Claire Schmidt, Jeahna Schmidt, Savannah Schmidt, Katie Schmidt and Keviunna Schmidt; many other loving family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Casper and Marie Schmidt and her nephew, John J. Schmidt Jr.
