PIPER, Doris J. (Saari) – of Davison, MI, age 83, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2019. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9 AM Monday, November 11, 2019 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 North Dayton Street, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. Interment immediately following the Mass in St. John Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 3-8 PM Sunday, November 10, 2019 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423 and 8-9 AM Monday, November 11, 2019 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. A Memorial Service under the auspices of the Daughters of Isabella will be held 6:30 PM Sunday, November 10, 2019 followed by a Rosary at 7 PM Sunday, November 10, 2019 at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, in memory of Doris.
Doris was born in Negaunee, MI on December 16, 1935, daughter of the late Jalmer and Martha Saari. She married Justin Piper on December 29, 1956 and he preceded her in death on December 26, 2015. Doris was employed as a Registered Nurse for Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI, the former St. Mary Hospital in Livonia, MI and St. Joseph Hospital in Mt. Clemens, MI. She volunteered for St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Hospice in Roscommon, MI. Doris was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, The Martha’s and the Red Hat Society. She also enjoyed knitting, reading, playing cards and she vigorously walked daily.
Doris is survived by her son, John (Julie) Piper; daughter, Amy Salisbury; daughter-in-law, Debra Piper; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Elaine Saari; many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jalmer and Martha Saari; husband, Justin Piper; son, David Piper; brother, Arvid Saari; sister, Ruth (Edwin) Laituri; 2 sisters-in-law, Theresa Gronczewski and Sylvia Shinska.
