MCGOWEN, DORIS JEAN (Allen)- Of Flint, age 91, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2026, at her residence.
Funeral service will be held at 1pm Monday, January 12, 2026, at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Jon Gildner officiating.
Visitation will be held from 3-5pm Sunday, January 11, 2026, and 12pm Monday until the time of service.
Entombment will be at Crestwood Cemetery.
Doris was born in Atwood, Tennessee on January 4, 1935, the daughter of the late Dewey and Alma Allen.
She married Jay “JR” McGowen on March 22, 1953.
Doris attended Central Church of the Nazarene she loved the Lord and was a true prayer warrior. She enjoyed taking care of her family, being a homemaker, singing, reading and walking.
Doris loved gospel music especially southern gospel. She and her 2 sisters formed a trio called the Allen Sisters and sang at many churches in southern Missouri and Arkansas. She deeply loved and cherished her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Jay “JR”; her 2 children Sandy and husband Joe Sabin and Stephen and his wife Sara McGowen; 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; 2 sisters Bonnie Hill and Darlene (Ken) Creasey; brother-in-law JC Venable and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by 4 sisters and her brother.
