Richard Allen Zvonek (Dick) age 88, of New Lothrop passed away on August 25th, 2025 at home with his family by his side.
Richard was born on December 7th, 1936, to Joseph and Marie (Bradac) Zvonek in Flint, Michigan. He graduated from Davison High School with the class of 1955. Richard was a long-time member of the ZCBJ Lodge. He danced with the Flint Czech dance group and then with the Owosso Czech dance group. Richard met the love of his life Arleen Jean Martinka at the ZCBJ Lodge in Owosso. They married on September 27th, 1958, at St. Cyril Church in Bannister, Michigan. Together they had two sons, Mark and Michael. Richard began his career shortly after graduation at the Buick Motor Division, then at Chevrolet Manufacturing through the transition to Fisher Guide and remained there for a total of 31 years, retiring in 1987.
In his retirement years, Richard also worked at Gracie’s Country Inn along with his twin brother Joe. Richard spent the bulk of his life together with Joe and they were never far apart even living just a few houses away. When they were kids, their dad tied them to a rope and took them fishing on a trout stream, making sure they didn’t fall and wouldn’t be separated. From a young age the outdoors was his haven, and he continued to be an avid outdoorsman throughout his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushrooming, and gardening. When he was inside, he could be found at the casino or watching Detroit sports, playing cards with his family, and eating anything sweet!
Richard is survived by his wife Arleen, his sons Mark Zvonek and Michael (Melissa) Zvonek; grandchildren Samantha (Mike) Klooster, Diana Zvonek (future grandson Anthony Crognale), and Katie Zvonek; and great-grandchildren Addison and Elliott Klooster; sisters-in-law Dorothy Martinka and Elaine Zajdlik. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marie; his in-laws Matus and Vera Martinka; sister and brother in-law Josephine and Myrl Chapin; brothers-in-law Melvin Martinka and Edward Zajdlik, and niece and nephew Norma and Robert Hohn.
Visitation will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home in New Lothrop on Wednesday, August 27 from 2-8pm. A funeral will take place at McGeehan Funeral home on Thursday, August 28th at 11am followed by burial at Elmwood Cemetery in New Lothrop.
