KEARLY, Roy Jr. “Butch” – of Genesee, formerly of Harrisville, age 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at the LaVigne Home, surrounded by his loving family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the LaVigne Home for Compassionate Care, 4085 Lapeer Road, Burton, Michigan.

Butch was born on August 7, 1939, in Harrisville, Michigan, to the late Roy and Maribel (Hart) Kearly. On October 23, 1959, he married the love of his life, Kathleen Stinchcombe. Together they shared 65 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in 2024.

One of Butch’s proudest accomplishments began in his early twenties when he pursued his dream of becoming a barber. Through hard work, determination, and an unwavering commitment to his family, he built a career that would span more than six decades. To many, Butch was far more than a barber. His chair became a place where friendships were formed, stories were shared, advice was given and faith was strengthened. He had a remarkable gift for making people feel seen, heard, and valued.

In 1973, with his trademark entrepreneurial spirit, Butch founded Hicks Tackle Shop. What began as a small venture grew over the years into a well-known local business, with the Clio location, Hicks Outdoors, becoming a favorite destination for generations of outdoor enthusiasts. Butch was a generous, spirited, and deeply loved man who rarely went without a smile. He was a natural storyteller, a hard worker, and someone who genuinely enjoyed helping others. He cherished summers spent at the family cabin at Secord Lake, time with family and friends, and relaxing with a cold Budweiser. More than anything, he loved his family. He was their rock, their source of strength, and the heart of countless gatherings. His legacy of hard work, kindness, faith, and perseverance will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.

He is lovingly remembered by his children, Mark (Maria) Kearly and Kelly (Mike) Thibaut; grandchildren, Candace (Travis) Smith, Brittany (Jackson) Campbell, Madison Kearly, Kendall Kearly, Ryan (Rikki) Thibaut, and Carie (AJ) Babcock; great-grandchildren, Lydia, Alice, Kirra, Wayne, Grant, Delilah, Connor, Jace, Michael, and Andrew; siblings, Robert Kearly and Debby Kearly; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathleen; his parents, Roy and Maribel; and his sister, Cathy.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to McLaren Hospice, Nurse Sara Young, and CNA Michelle Morgan for the compassionate care, comfort, and support they provided to Butch and his family during his final days.
