Erin was born in Midland, Michigan, on September 22, 1958, the daughter of the late Mark and Laurel (Watson) Culver. She met the love of her life, Stephen Brockway, by chance at a gas station where Steve was working. After mustering up the courage to ask her for an orange soda, a beautiful love story began. The two were married on June 16, 1984, in Burton, Michigan. In 1994 they adopted their beautiful twin girls in Athens, Georgia and together the family shared a lifetime filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.
Erin earned her Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology from Michigan State University and dedicated 22 years of her career to Henry Ford Health–Genesys as a Medical Laboratory Technologist. Before that, she served her community as a member of EMS in Davison.
Family was at the center of Erin’s life. She was a loving grandmother to 10 grandchildren and was especially proud of her twin daughters, Naomi and Abigail. She was the backbone of her family - selfless with her time, always willing to help, and someone her loved ones could depend on. She gave freely of herself and made those around her feel loved and cared for.
Erin was intelligent, curious, and possessed a beautiful mind. Erin was a woman of many interests and talents. She loved to travel, especially her annual girls’ trips with her sister, Patti, and trips up north to the family cabin. She had a special love for horses and animals of all kinds, and even had a horse of her own. She was incredibly creative and enjoyed crafting, baking, and making special treats for her grandchildren. Her blueberry crisp, brownies, cookies, and many other homemade goodies were made with love and will be fondly remembered. She especially loved Christmas and all the joy and togetherness the holiday brought to her family.
An aspiring author, Erin wrote a children’s book and dreamed of one day writing the story of her own life. She also pursued karate at PKSA Davison and was nearly a black belt - a fitting accomplishment for a woman known for her determination and feisty spirit – all 4’8.5” of her!
Erin’s life was defined by love, laughter, creativity, determination, and an unwavering devotion to the people she held dear. Her family and friends will forever cherish her quick wit, selfless heart, beautiful mind, and the countless memories she created throughout her life.
Erin is survived by her loving husband, Stephen Paul Brockway; daughters, Naomi Partrece Brockway and Abigail Louise Brockway; son, Justin Thomas Brockway; grandchildren: Courtlyn Brockway, Destiny Louise Brockway, Brylee Brockway, Tiana Brockway, Ryanna Brockway, Amarion Stephen Paul Brockway, Dashawn Brockway, Mi’Joy Erin Louise Brockway, Gianni Brockway and Nay’Zier Brockway; siblings: James Martin (Dawn) Culver and Patricia Ann (Daniel) Mowen; dear family friend, Peter Hubley; her loving dog, Jessie; many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by daughter, Emily Laurel Brockway; and her brother, Steve Culver.
Special thanks to The Medical Team Hospice for their continuous care and support up until the very end.
