William “Lyle” Johnson, 85, of Galesburg, IL. Died Friday April 8, 2011 at St.. Mary’s Medical Center in Galesburg. Services are 11:30 AM Saturday April 16, 2011 at the Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull. Burial is in Alpha cemetery where graveside Military services will be conducted. Visitation is from 10:00 AM until time of services Saturday at the funeral home where memorials may be left the Oxford American Legion Post 1197 or the American Diabetes Association. He was born June 24, 1925 near Andover, Il. To William O. and Irene McDowell Johnson. He married Lily “Edith” Smart November 10, 1956 in Sparta, IL. She died March 31, 2010.
Lyle was a U.S. Army veteran during WW2 and was employed at John Deere Plow and Planter in Moline for 31 years retiring in 1974. He was a member of the Oxford American Legion Post 1197, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Masonic Lodge.
He enjoyed fishing, camping and attending his grandchildren’s activities.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Linda Gordon of Port Angeles, WA, Kris (Lynn) Pease of Alexis, IL, 4 sons, Rick (Brenda) Vanover of Fayetteville, Il, Randy Vanover of Port Orchard, WA, Darrell Johnson of Woodhull, IL, Mike Johnson of Bellville, IL 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 1 sister Lucille Holden of Moline and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, wife, 2 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and 1 sister preceded him in death.
