Terry L. Groves, a beloved father, veteran, and community advocate, passed away peacefully, July 5th leaving behind a legacy of courage, love, and service.

A 1966 graduate of Swartz Creek High School, Terry enlisted in the United States Army that same year, serving as a Sergeant First Class in the 101st Airborne Division as a paratrooper, Terry was a Sergeant E-5, 101st Airborne, 1st of the 506 infantry. Recipient of two Purple Hearts for combat in The Republic. He was a Military Police Guard and Watchman. A proud Vietnam veteran, he was honored with the Purple Heart and Oak Leaf Cluster for wounds sustained during the month when the most Americans lost their lives in the war, a testament to his bravery and sacrifice.

Terry’s passion for life was evident in his 60 year career as a real estate broker, where his knack for never turning down a good deal became legendary. An avid hunter, he found solace in nature, but his true joy came from his unwavering love for his daughters, Mandy and Tiffany, whom he cherished unconditionally. His infectious smile lit up every room, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.

For 49 years, Terry was a dedicated member of Alcoholics Anonymous, embodying resilience and hope. He was a tireless advocate for veterans and the Flint community, always striving to make a difference. Terry’s life was a beacon of strength, kindness, and generosity, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

He was never unkind or judgmental, he always told us the importance of a strong handshake, and to always love thy neighbor.

He is survived by his daughters, Mandy (Bob) and Tiffany (Ryan), his beloved friend Beth, his grandchildren Keegan, Siri, Chloe, Kaitlyn, Dylan, Olivia, Will, his cherished dog, Tooey, countless friends and community members who will forever cherish his spirit.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 1:00pm at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road Swartz, MI 48473 with Deacon Dave Jansen officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the Swartz Creek Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 11:00am until time of the service. Entombment will take place at a later date at Great Lakes National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Swartz Creek American Legion Honor Guard.
