SLOCUM, Helen G. – Formerly of Flushing, age 93, died Monday, September 12, 2016, at McLaren Regional Medical Center. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 16, 2016, at Rossell Funeral Home. Pastor Thomas Mattiuzzo will officiate. Burial will follow at Flushing Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11-9 Thursday and until the time of the service on Friday. If desired, donations may be made to Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation (OI Foundation) or American Heart Association. Mrs. Slocum was born May 18, 1923, in Flint, Michigan, to William and Madge (Ells) Amie. She married Ernest Laverne Slocum on October 24, 1940; he preceded her in death January 24, 1993. Mrs. Slocum was a member of Court Street United Methodist Church of Flint. She was a former resident of Elmcrest Village in Flushing and she resided in McFarlan Home in Flint for the past three years. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She is survived by: five children, Larry and wife Virginia Slocum of Lupton, Lon Slocum of Flushing, Nancy and husband Paul Corliss of Flushing, Jeanne and husband Rolly Anderson of Swartz Creek, Mark and wife Roselee Slocum of Greenland, MI; 23 grandchildren; many great-and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephew; many close friends. She was preceded in death by brothers; sisters; and daughter-in-law, Natalja Slocum in 2012.
