BEARDSLEE, Richard Dean – of Maple Grove Township, MI, age 79 passed away surrounded by his family at Hurley Medical Center on Thursday, August 9, 2018. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at the New Lothrop Nazarene Church, 7406 Saginaw St.; Pastor Paul Brashaw officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 2-8 PM at Nelson-House Funeral Home - New Lothrop Chapel, 9405 Butternut St. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Tuesday at church. Memorial Contributions can be made to the donor’s choice.
Richard was born in Flint, MI on December 16, 1938, son of the late John and Evelyn (Delbridge) Beardslee. He graduated from Montrose High School in 1958. Richard married Norma Jean Birchmeier and would have celebrated 58 years of marriage next month. He worked for Montrose Community Schools as head maintenance man before retiring in 2004 after many years of service. Richard was a handyman and could fix just about anything. He enjoyed riding his Harley, playing cards, collecting old coins and doing puzzles. Richard also loved playing his guitar and piano and sitting at the kitchen table reminiscing about the “good ol days.” You could always rely on him to tell a good joke!! He was kind and generous to everyone and would offer them the shirt off his back if it helped. Above all else, Richard was a family man and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and extended family. Weekly Sunday dinners for the past 35 years allowed them to all stay close. There was nothing better than his family. He truly was, “THE BEST GUY IN THE WHOLE WORLD!!”
Richard is survived by his wife, Norma Beardslee; five children, Richard (Sherri) Beardslee of Maple Grove Township, Danise Csercse of Montrose, Jeff (Ronei-Sue) Beardslee of Montrose, Shane (Barb) Beardslee of Montrose, Dianne (Don) Wyper of New Lothrop; 17 grandchildren, Michael (Brooke) Beardslee, Corey (Cathy) Csercse, Ryan (Courtney) Beardslee, Rondalee Beardslee, Jesse Beardslee, Moriah (Tony) Johnson, Rochelle Beardslee, John Michael Beardslee, Cheyenne Csercse, Raelynn Beardslee, Grace Beardslee, Nevaeh Wyper, Braden Wyper; 10 great-grandchildren, Karissa, Corey Jr. (CJ), Ellie, Annabelle, Chloie, Blane, Deacon, Aurelius, Everly, Caitlyn; brothers, Jim Beardslee, John (Cindy) Beardslee; sister; Janice Beardslee; sister-in-laws, Kathy Birchmeier; June Birchmeier; brother-in-laws, Pete Case, Frank Bacigil and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his step-father, Rev. A.E. McFarland; sisters, Karen Brown, Donna Mae Case; brother-in-laws, Howard Birchmeier, Merle Birchmeier, Ralph Birchmeier, Russ Brown; sister-in-laws, Marie Bacigil, Doris Dodak; great-grandson, Emmet Beardslee and very special uncle, George Beardslee.
The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to ICU Nurse, “Moon” of Hurley Medical Center, for the wonderful care of their father during a difficult time.
