Hansel Joe Cooke “Joe”, devoted father, husband, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2025 at the age of 86. Leaving behind a legacy of achievement and service to the community.

Born September 1, 1938 of modest means in the city of Bakersville, North Carolina, to the late William Riley and Laura Cooke. He was the 11th child of 14 children.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Cooke; sisters: Thema Virginia, Willie Mae, Beatrice “Bee”, and Pansy Lou; brothers: James Wiley Cooke, Tulsa Stokes Cooke, Billy Ray Cooke, John Edd, William Paul, Parker Eugene, Billy Ray, and Arthur Edward.

He is survived by his devoted and loving daughters: Theresa Cooke and her husband James Hawrys, and Tamera Cooke and her husband, Chris Mills, and his daughter, Therena and her husband James Bastianelli; his grandchildren: Taylor Humphrey (Ila), Clayton Humphrey and his partner Shelby, James G Bastianelli; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his son-in-law's family, who have been supportive and loving to Joe in his last days.

From the time Hansel Joe was a young child, he proved to be a unique and driven person. He wanted more than the little town Bakersville, North Carolina could give to him and in 1955, he moved to Michigan where he heard of promises of jobs and prosperity. He worked hard and became a prominent businessman and community leader. Owning various businesses over the years with his main business, Flint Vending and Amusement company for nearly 60 years. He sold the business and transformed his warehouse to Joe’s good junk before he retired to care for his wife, Dolores.

Joe loved his family and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, putting his family first before all else in his life.

Arrangements are being handled by Brown Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Monday, April 7, 2025 from 4pm-8pm at Brown Funeral Home – 1480 E Hill Rd, Grand Blanc.
