David Enoch Canterbury, age 69, passed away on January 31, 2026.
Dave grew up in Fenton, Michigan, and went on to build a life centered on family, hard work, and the outdoors. Together with his loving wife of 46 years, Theresa, they raised their daughter, Krystal, in Swartz Creek, creating a home filled with love, dedication, and strong values. In retirement, Dave and Theresa enjoyed time at Eight Point Lake, a place that perfectly matched his love for nature and life on the water.
Dave retired from the Genesee County Motor Pool after a long and successful career, completing two journeyman programs along the way. Known for his strong work ethic and mechanical skill, he took pride in his work and the people he worked alongside. Even after retiring, Dave stayed active as the garage supervisor for the GCARC, simply because he enjoyed staying busy and being useful.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Dave found joy outdoors and passed that love on to his family. Above all else, he cherished time with his grandchildren—Tucker, Camden, and Kenzie—whether watching them compete in sports, boating and fishing, hunting, coloring, or quietly teaching them life skills they will carry forever. His patience, steady presence, and gentle guidance left a lasting mark on their lives.
Dave’s greatest joy was his daughter Krystal. He enjoyed watching her play sports, win a national championship for poms in high school, graduate from Michigan State University, marrying Nate and becoming a mom. The bond Dave and Krystal shared is unmatched and forever admirable.
Dave was a proud member of the Lake Rod and Gun Club, Eight Point Lake Association and F.O.E. Aerie 3761, where he established deep meaningful friendships.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife Theresa; his daughter Krystal Badyrka and son-in-law Nate; his cherished grandchildren Tucker, Camden, and Kenzie; his siblings Patricia and Eddie Diamond, Theresa and Larry Moffat, Jeff and Sharon Canterbury, Penny and Randy Keen, and Rick and Gwen Funseth; and his lifelong friends Terry Waider and Larry Mills. He was also deeply adored by his nephew Tony Jones and several other loving nieces and nephews.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Enoch and Margaret Canterbury; his in-laws, Robert and Barbara Seeley; and his brother-in-law, Robert Funseth.
A celebration of life honoring Dave will be held in the spring, with more information to be shared by the family at a later date.
Dave will be remembered as a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, loyal friend, and a man whose greatest joy was time with his daughter and grandchildren, sharing lessons, laughter, and a presence that made them feel safe and deeply loved. His legacy lives on in the family he adored and the lessons he shared so generously.
