Richard “Rich” Lee Roach, 73, passed peacefully away in Fenton, Michigan on Thursday April
23, 2026 after a 2 1/2 year battle following a stroke. Richard was born in Amarillo, Texas to
Julia “Christina” and Paul Roach on May 20, 1952. He grew up in various places around the world due to his father being in the Air Force. Richard graduated from Central High School in Minnesota and joined the Army in 1970 at the age of 18. He enjoyed traveling Europe while in the military. He left the military in 1977 as an SP7 and moved to Minnesota to be closer to his parents. In 1975, he married his first love (other than electronics), Pamela Cecil and had three children. Richard was passionate about anything electronics and loved to build and create electronics. He contributed to cutting edge robotic technology at Unisys in the early 1990s. He also enjoyed horse racing and was often found at the racetrack during the summer. In addition, he thoroughly enjoyed going to the Minnesota State Fair and enjoyed finding unique pieces of art that he could bring home. His ultimate favorite thing was spending time with his family and grandchildren. In 2005, he met his second love, Shirleen “Lena” Marsh and they were married on July 7, 2007. Richard and Lena enjoyed traveling together and had many adventures together. Richard is remembered as a loving husband, father, and brother. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Julia and Paul Roach; ex-wife, Pamela (Cecil) Petty; and stepson, Joel Kiertzner. Richard is survived by his wife, Shirleen (Marsh) Roach; sisters, Kathy Knight and Denise (Bill) Hampton; children, Jonathan (Christa) Roach, Wendy Curtis, and Kristen (Joseph) Rivera; and stepdaughter, Kristin Brantley. He also is survived by his grandchildren, Austin Roach, Genevieve “Genna” Curtis, Logan Curtis and Brayden Curtis. Richard’s funeral service will be held at 10:30am on May 4th at Woodbury Lutheran Church 7380 Afton Road, Woodbury, MN with a visitation starting an hour before the service.
