STEWART, Irene Marie - Of Flint, age 91, passed away Friday, January 2, 2026, at Regency of Grand Blanc.

A Memorial Mass will be held 11am Monday, February 2, 2026 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 2415 Bagley Street, Flint, MI.

Visitation 10am Monday at church until the time of the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Genesee County Humane Society.

Irene was born in Flint, Michigan on November 10, 1934, the daughter of the late Michael J. and Albina P. (Stimpfl) Byrnes. On June 10, 1961, she married Lawrence Stewart at St. John Vianney in Flint, and he preceded her in death on March 30, 2021. Irene obtained an Associate’s in Arts with a focus on childhood literacy. She loved children, great and small, and supported several charities focused on important causes. She also taught Catechism to children of the Catholic faith. Irene gave back to the community by volunteering for various programs including reading the Sunday newspaper for the blind. She held account receivable positions at different firms, worked at the Post Office, and was a school crossing guard among other professions. Irene worked as a voice talent in radio and TV, including being the “voice of the Fair” for the former Fair Department store in Genesee County. She also hosted a local weekly talk radio program and supported organizations advocating for women’s interests. Irene appreciated the arts and frequently visited art museums and exhibits. She liked collecting tea pots and angels; had a fondness for cats and appreciated the beauty of flowers, especially Irises. Irene also enjoyed ice cream, chocolate, drinking her afternoon tea with a treat, taking naps, going to the beach, swimming in the great lakes, walking, exercising and doing crossword puzzles. Irene had strong values and was an angel with a giving heart to all. Above all else, Irene loved spending time with her family.

Surviving are children, Stephen J. Stewart of California, Marie T. Stewart and Spike M. Pearson of Flint;

grandchildren, Emilie, Michael, and Johnathan;

sisters, Eleanor (Mal) Schubert of Ohio and Patricia Schindler of Colorado;

and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Matthew V. Stewart and brother, Michael Byrnes, Jr.
