WILLIAMS, Robert - of Mt. Morris, age 91, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2025. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Thursday, June 26, 2025, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 5073 Daly Blvd., Flint, MI 48506; Pastor Morgan Garrett officiating. Interment with Military Honors will immediately follow in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service at the church, beginning at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
Robert was born in Flint, Michigan on September 6, 1933. Son of the late Thomas H. and Marjorie L (Naylor). He graduated from Flint Central High School in 1951, attended Flint JR. College and transferred to Michigan State University where he graduated with a B.A degree in 1955 and a M.A degree in 1960. Robert also attended the University of Michigan medical school PhD. program in 1970. While in high school he was active in scouting and obtained the rank of Eagle scout. He was a counselor at Pine Lake scout camp and waterfront lifeguard for three years. Robert was president of the Attic Players and performed in several school plays. He was president of the local and regional Jr. Red Cross. Robert served in the US Army as radio repair/ maintenance and was on the Fort pistol team. He married Clarice Veitengruber on August 29, 1959, and she preceded him in death on August 26, 2022. Robert was employed by the Flint Community Schools for 37 years, 15 of those years at Mott Children’s Health Center as speech clinician and audiologist. He authored or coauthored several pediatric hearing loss research papers, two were nationally published. Robert presented a paper at the ASHA in Washington DC and was chairman of the Scientific and Technical session the next year. He was active in the Michigan Speech and Hearing Association and compiled the first list of Audiologists in Michigan. Robert also served on the regional cleft palate team and several federal titled programs related to severely handicapped children. He was an adjunct instructor for the medical schools at both MSU and U of M.
Robert enjoyed the outdoors. He was a member of several nature groups and liked hiking, which he did with his wife out West. He loved his summer home where he enjoyed ice fishing, cross country skiing, swimming, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, fly fishing and riding in his old, restored boat. During the coldest winter months, he tied flies, wood working, bowling and was an avid reader.
Robert relished family relationships and always enjoyed being with them. He is survived by his children: David (Diane) Williams and Susan (Scott) Bentley; six grandchildren: Nicholas (Nicole) Williams, Clarissa Williams, Bradley Williams, Emily Williams, Kristelle Bentley and Chelsea Bentley; three great-grandchildren: Jaxson Williams, Evianna Williams and Malcolm Scott Lytten. He was preceded in death by his friend, companion and loving wife, Clarice.
