Jerrold J. Humpula, age 80, passed away at home surrounded by his family Tuesday, February 23, 2021. He was born in Saginaw County son of the late James and Marie (Lintz) Humpula on May 20, 1940. He married is wife, the former JoAnn Bolf on August 4, 1962 and she survives him. Jerry took over the family business, Humpula Tile Drainage in 1975 and operated it until retiring in 2009. Jerry loved gardening and teaching his grandchildren about the outdoors and life on a farm. He loved getting involved in the community and attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events watching them win many state championships. He cherished his fishing and hunting trips to his second home in Crystal Falls, MI where he bagged the first Camp Nostrovia buck and he wouldn’t let anyone forget it. Jerry was a past member of Maple Grove Fire Department and served on Maple Grove Board of Review. He was a member and chairman of Michigan Land Improvement Contractors Association for 10 years, a member of Legislative Committee National Land Improvement Contractors of America. Chairman of the Non-Point Pollution Committee Region 3 Land Improvement Contractors of America representing Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. He was a Saginaw County Commissioner Chairman of the Board. A member of the planning committee for RCD and Saginaw County Parks and Recreation. He was also involved with Maple Grove youth sports and ball fields.

Along with his wife JoAnn, Jerry is survived by his children, Kyleen Vincke, Howell, MI, Jim (Jennifer) Humpula, Lake, MI, Jill Zimmerman, Cape Coral, FL, Kari (Mike) Knieper, New Lothrop, MI; grandchildren, Kristen (Jonny) Ellison, Trevor (Rachelle) Vincke, Jarrett and Joelle Humpula, Kassondra (Nicholas) Schneider, Kyle Lare, Connor Birchmeier, Ryley and Karley Hafner, Jackson, Remmington and Brody Knieper; great grandchildren, Evie Ellison and Baby Vincke; brothers, Dennis (Bev) Humpula, Roger (Terry) Humpula, and Danny (Ann) Humpula; sisters, Vickie Daniels, Lenore (Bob) Beckman, Cheryl (Larry) Mouton, Tammy (Don) Engler; many Bolf family members; his beloved Crystal Falls adopted family and his faithful dog companions. He also leaves many cherish friends in his community! He was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Marie Humpula; mother and father in-law, John and Mary Bolf; and siblings, James, Delbert, Richard and Linda Humpula.

A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 1, 2021 at McGeehan Funeral Home St. Charles Chapel. Pastor Tammy Metz will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions can be made to the wishes of the family. A memorial celebration will take place at the Humpy Pond at a later date.
