Merry Joyce (Sloan, Shumaker) Dow, age 87, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2017. She was born on April 12, 1929 in Flint to parents Frank and Jennie (Darling) Sloan. Merry graduated from Grand Blanc High School. She enjoyed many things like playing bingo, card games, and watching the Detroit Tigers. More than anything, Merry loved spending time with her family and especially loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Merry is survived by her children: Debbie (Ray) Brown, Pam (Bob) Perkins, Rob (Becki) Shumaker; grandchildren: Stephanie (Jason) Eldred, Paul (Bekah) Brown, Bob (Hope) Shumaker, James (Rachel) Brown, Andrew (Tiffany) Brown, Rachel (Nathan) Didlake, Deborah (Garett Knapp) Brown; great grandchildren: Xander Eldred, Nathan Eldred, Elliana Brown, Isaac Brown, Kaleb Brown, Alaynna Brown, Robbie Shumaker, Mikell Didlake, Lydia Didlake, Silas Didlake; siblings: Genevieve Howe, Rosa (Walt) Schaefer, Jimmy (Janice) Sloan; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by both parents; husbands: Robert Franklin Shumaker, Earl C. Dow; sisters: Joanne Richardson, Betty Shumaker. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, Pastor Nathan Didlake and Paul Brown officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 16, 2017 from 1-8pm and on Tuesday one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10am. Interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Those desiring may make a memorial contribution to Alzheimer’s Association or the Dementia Society of America in Merry’s name.
