CHAPPELL, THELMA LANELL- Age 91, passed from this life to her Heavenly home on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at her residence in Lennon, Michigan.
Funeral service will be held 11am Friday, January 26, 2024 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 6273 Miller Road, Swartz Creek, Pastor Nathan Brown and Pastor Jason Wing co-officiating.
Burial in Flint Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church.
Visitation 5-8pm Thursday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Visitation 10am Friday at church until the time of the service.
LaNell, as she was known to family and friends, the daughter of the late Troy A. and Thelma L. Prewitt, born on June 28, 1932 in McCrory, Arkansas, where she lived the majority of her growing up years.
In 1948 she moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi and graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1950. Shortly after graduating she returned to Arkansas and married the love of her life, Kenneth Ray Chappell on October 26, 1950 in Cotton Plant, Arkansas.
In 1953 Kenneth and LaNell moved to Flint, Michigan and resided in Clio for 42 years before moving to Lennon.
LaNell was a loving, godly, faithful, and beautiful homemaker. In addition to raising two children, she worked as an Avon Representative for 7+ years during the 60’s.
Serving her Lord Jesus was LaNell’s greatest joy. She was a faithful member of Cornerstone Baptist Church for many years, serving as Sunday School teacher, a choir member and as a kitchen ministry director. In recent years, she also participated in the Ladies Bible Study, the Senior Women’s Prayer Group, and the Ambassadors fellowship for senior adults.
LaNell enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, traveling, cooking, and sewing, but her favorite moments were spent with family.
Surviving are her Daughter, LaRae (Michael) Wing of Lennon and Daughter-in-law, Tina Chappell of Gainesville, Virginia;
Grandchildren, Jason (Rachel) Wing of Dayton, Ohio; Phillip (Amber) Wing of Miamisburg, Ohio; Kendon (Lauren) Chappell of Warrenton, Virginia; Blake (Jocelyn) Chappell of Muskegon, Michigan; Paige (Spencer) Kettell of Yalaha, Florida; and Clayton Chappell of Gainesville, Virginia;
Great-grandchildren, Reagan, Gideon, Jonathan and Liberty Wing; Gibson, Maya, Silas, Elli and Walker Wing; Audrey and Moira Chappell; William and Evangeline Kettell;
Brother, Gerald (Gail) Prewitt of Italy, Texas.
Additionally, she is survived by several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and many other family members.
LaNell was preceded in death by husband, Kenneth; son, Val; 7 brothers and 3 sisters.
