Merlin Herald, age 77, of Corunna, Michigan, died Thursday, October 22, 2020 at McLaren-Flint Hospital. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 26, 2020 at New Lothrop Church of the Nazarene. Burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery in New Lothrop. Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Sunday, October 25, 2020 at Rossell Funeral Home in Flushing and 10 a.m. Monday at the church until the time of the service. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Twin Township Ambulance or New Lothrop Church of the Nazarene.
Merlin was born in Talbert, Kentucky on May 29, 1943 to Allen and Polly (Deaton) Herald. He married Patricia Matlock on March 30, 1968. He retired from General Motors in 1996 after 30 years of service. Merlin loved to coon hunt, tinker on cars and around the house, and talk to his cousin Letch on the phone.
Merlin is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia; children, Casey Herald of Lansing and Linda (Tony) Breiler of Corunna; grandchildren, Melanie and Noah Herald and Ashley and Kyle Breiler; siblings, Roy (Pat) Herald of Newport, Kentucky, Bill (Barb) Herald of Alexandria, Kentucky, Ray (Euleen) of Alexandria, Kentucky, Roberta Sampley of Hermitage, Tennessee, and Jane Matacia of Cincinnati, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews, and step siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Polly; parents-in-law, Wayne and Eudell; and stepmother, Lizzy.
