1946 – 2025
Jane Lee (Fitch) Burgess, 79, of Grand Blanc, Michigan, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025. Born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1946, Jane was the daughter of Dr. Robert Fitch and Frances Fitch. She spent most of her life in Michigan, where she was deeply devoted to her family, her students, and her community.
Jane is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, William (Bill) Burgess, and by her two sons, James Burgess (Kisja) and John Burgess (Terinda). She was the proud and joyful grandmother to four grandsons: Caleb, Carter, Cole and Hale.
She is also survived by her three siblings: Ann Mayers, Leslie VanBlarcom (Cliff), and Dr. Thomas Fitch (Janis), as well as many nieces and nephews who cherished her dearly.
Jane dedicated over 40 years of her life to teaching elementary school, where she inspired generations of students with her kindness, patience, and passion for learning. Her legacy as an educator lives on in the many lives she touched.
Outside the classroom, Jane found joy in life’s simple pleasures—baking cakes and cookies, tending her garden, walking in her beloved Indian Hill neighborhood, and spending time at the beach. She had a lifelong love of dogs, especially sheepdogs, and was known for rescuing animals in need. Jane also enjoyed birdwatching, reading, and celebrating the Christmas season, which she approached each year with warmth, excitement, and love.
Jane’s life was a beautiful reflection of generosity, strength, and heart. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held at Hill Funeral Home - 11723 S. Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, Michigan on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Visitation will begin at 3:00 PM, and the service will begin at 5:00 PM. |
