Rau, John Peter of Flushing, age 84, died Saturday, February 10, 2024, at McLaren-Flint. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2024, at St. Robert Catholic Church. Fr. Jonathan Perrotta will officiate. Cremation will follow the Mass. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Friday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Saturday at church until the time of the Mass. A Rosary will be prayed 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Flushing Christian Outreach Center or St. Robert Catholic Church.
John was born on August 13, 1939, the son of Frederick and Catherine (Weycker) Rau. He married Judith Taubitz on August 27, 1960, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Flint. He was a faithful and longtime member at St. Robert Catholic Church. John worked as a Supervisor for General Motors. He was self-taught at computers and investing in the stock market. He was a savvy investor and enjoyed sharing his knowledge and advice with his family. He was a generous giver and was always willing to help family and friends in need. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid runner. He ran in many Crim races through the years. Together with his wife, they enjoyed spending winters in Florida and spending time with their family at their cabin on Houghton Lake. His greatest joy was his grandchildren and was their greatest fan at all of their sporting events.
John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Judy; five children, Teri and husband Dean Aube of Ossineke, Michigan, Karen Roberts of Texas, Kathy and husband Kevin Snyder of Flushing, Dennis and wife Martha Rau of Flushing, Linda Gordon of Kansas; 10 grandchildren, Alex, Jim, Jenna and husband Peter, Julia, Mitchell and wife Kayla, Elizabeth, Justin, Jack, Jacob, AJ; five great-grandchildren, Liam, Teagan, Aubree, Mason, Kollyns; brothers, Fred and wife Marsha Rau, Albert Rau; and sister, Ava Bennett. He was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Sloane; son-in-law, John Roberts; brother, Peter; and his parents.
