BARHITTE, Genevieve – of Davison, age 100, died peacefully September 25, 2015 at McLaren – Flint. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Monday, September 28, 2015 at Davison United Methodist Church, 207 E. 3rd St., Davison; Rev. Kevin Miles officiating. Entombment will be at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-7 PM Sunday at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Davison United Methodist Church or Barhitte Elementary School Library.
Genevieve was born in Fostoria, MI on September 23, 1915, daughter of the late Hugh and Mabel (Osborne) Rumph. She married Fay E. Barhitte on May 27, 1939 and were married for nearly 50 years before he preceded her in death in 1989. She was a passionate 3rd grade teacher for Bentley Schools for 26 years. Genevieve was the oldest active member at Davison United Methodist Church, and enjoyed her church family. She loved competitive games, especially playing shuffleboard at the Davison Senior Center where she was known to beat the men. She loved to watch the Tigers and Lions along with the U of M and MSU football and basketball games. Genevieve enjoyed golfing, cards and playing bean bags. One of her greatest joys was spending time with family and friends at her cottage in Gladwin. In 2007 she won a gold medal in golf in the Senior National Olympics at Louisville, KY. She made the front page of the “Well Being” magazine issued by Genesys, in 2010 for being a 95 year old knee replacement golfer.
Genevieve is survived by her children, Bethany Guernsey and James (Cheryl) Barhitte; grandchildren, Christian (Merlin) Bush, Joshua (Lauren) Barhitte and Jessica Barhitte; great and great-greatgrandchildren; sisters, Grace Mikulich and Helen Herrick; many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brother, Lyle Rumph and sister, Marion Maygar.
