HENSON, Roy O. - Of Flint, age 93, died Friday, May 11, 2018 at Caretel Inns of Linden.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Mr. Henson will be cremated following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Humane Society of Genesee County.
Visitation 4-8 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2018 and 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Roy was born in Waldenburg, Arkansas on October 28, 1924, the son of Walter and Dora Henson.
On August 19, 1949 he married Bernita North in Flint.
He was a 33rd Degree Mason in the local Masonic Temple.
Roy grew up in Arkansas joining the Civilian Conservation Corp in his late teens. He later moved to Flint and hired into Chevrolet Manufacturing, where he retired as a Chief Metallurgist, after 36 years of service.
He then designed, installed and managed Court Metal Finishing until retiring again at the age of 70.
He loved traveling with Bernita and friends, potlucks, dancing at Paradise Lakes, Florida and spending time at St. Helen with the grandkids.
Surviving are beloved wife of 68 years, Bernita;
daughters, Karen (Ted) Stong and Janet (Ron) Berish;
grandchildren, Alan (Jennifer) Berish, Kevin (Dawn) Stong and Kelly Link;
great-granddaughters, Drew Berish, Madeline Stong, Emma Stong, Olivia Link and Avery Link;
brother-in-law, Clinton (Connie) North;
sister-in-law, Velda Newberry;
many nieces, nephews and family friends.
A special thanks to Cartel’s Leighton House staff that took such good care of Dad.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Dora Henson; sister, Venita Grimes and brother, Wayne Henson.
