Mr. Jessie Halbert Jr., Born on April 7, 1949, in Columbus, Mississippi, to Jessie B. and Mollie Mae "Madear" Halbert Sr. The family relocated to Flint, Michigan in 1961, where Jessie would go on to graduate from the " Old" Flint Northern High School in 1969.
Jessie worked at Buick City in Material Control nearly four decades, from 1969 until his retirement in 2006. Outside of work, Jessie was a man of many passions. He found joy in playing basketball at Berston Field House, bowling with friends, and immersing himself in the excitement of football games. His love for movies and music was matched only by his enthusiasm for playing cards, dominoes, and chess.
A true family man, Jessie cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. He was especially fond of older model cars, particularly sports cars. His laughter and stories will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Jessie leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 54 years, Althea Marie; his son; Craig Maurice; and his daughter, Monica Marie. He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Karimah Nicole of Charlotte, NC, Andrea Simone, Shamond Maurice, Danielle Monay, and Laila Alia, all of Flint, MI. He also leaves behind four great-grandchildren: Trinity and Nyomi of Flint, MI, and Dareonn and Darenn of Charlotte, NC. Jessie is further survived by his brothers, Rev. Dr. John (Mae) Halbert of Rockford, IL, and Willie Hudson of Louisville, MS; his sisters, Lillie Wade of Elgin, TX, and Lelia (Ocie) Lewis Jr. of Canton, MI; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and in-laws.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Brenda Halbert, brother-in-law Leaon Wade, and sister-in-law Bonnie Hudson.
The family of Jessie Halbert Jr. would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Hill Funeral Home for their compassion and support during this difficult time, as well as to Flint Memorial Park Cemetery for their assistance.
As we remember Jessie, let us celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and the joy of family. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
A funeral visitation for Jessie will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc, Michigan. A funeral service will occur Friday, September 26, 2025 at 12:00 PM with family hour one hour prior to service at Hill Funeral Home. |
