Donald William Schluckebier, known to many as Don, passed away on October 11, 2026, in Bridgeport, Michigan, at the age of 78.
Don was born on July 8, 1948, in Saginaw, Michigan, and he spent his life rooted in the values of hard work, faith, and family. He was a man who carried himself with quiet strength and steady purpose, and those who knew him will remember him as wise, handy, and intelligent. He lived a life marked by dedication to the people and responsibilities that mattered most to him, and he met each season of life with practical skill and a generous heart.
As a lifelong learner, Don earned an agriculture degree from Michigan State University. Much of Don’s life was connected to the family farm, where he learned the importance of perseverance, stewardship, and commitment. Farming was not simply work to him, it was a way of life that reflected his understanding of the effort required to build and sustain something meaningful.
He brought the same dependable spirit to every task, whether it involved long days on the farm, helping with repairs, or offering sound advice when it was needed most. His hands were capable, his mind was sharp, and his presence brought reassurance to those around him. He used these skills and dedication during the 20 years he served as a Volunteer firefighter at Bridgeport Fire Department, and the several years he served as secretary on the Bridgeport Township water board.
Don and his beloved wife, Linda, shared 58 years of marriage and a life filled with love, companionship, and treasured memories. His family was always the heart of his life and he especially cherished treasured time spent supporting his family and visiting with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Don and Linda enjoyed doing things together, especially boating; they spent many happy days on the water. Through their time boating, including their involvement with the Bay City Yacht Club, they made lasting friendships and shared countless good times with those around them. The life they built together surrounded by family and dear friends was a lasting source of joy and strength for Don. The love and memories they shared remained at the heart of Don’s life.
Don will be remembered as a man of integrity, practical wisdom, and enduring devotion. He lived a life that was deeply connected to his work, his faith, and his family. He left behind a legacy of strength and kindness that will continue to be felt by those who knew and loved him. His life was one of purpose and quiet accomplishment, and his memory will remain a source of comfort and gratitude to all who were fortunate enough to share in it.
Family was the center of Don's life, and he treasured each generation with deep affection. He is survived by children, Mark Schluckebier and his wife Sherry, Chad Schluckebier, Curt Schluckebier and his wife Cheryl, and Stephanie Frank. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Jenna Trogan and her husband Keith, Chad Schluckebier and his wife Alyson, Brooke Hillman and her husband Justin, Hunter Schluckebier, Jacob Schluckebier and fiancée Rachel Isetts, and Cody Schluckebier and his wife Claire.
