William Leonard Weigand September 19, 1942 – May 11, 2025 (Age 82)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Leonard Weigand, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, on May 11, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on September 19, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, to Leonard John and Mable Imogene Weigand, Bill's life was marked by dedication to family, service to his country, and a passion for learning and teaching.

Bill was a proud veteran, having served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964, where he earned recognition as an expert sharpshooter and served as a colonel's secretary. He graduated from Southeastern Detroit High School in 1960 and went on to achieve a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Lawrence Institute of Technology in 1971, followed by a master’s in computer science from Wayne State University.

In 1966, Bill married the love of his life, Concetta Marie (Corio) Weigand, and together they shared 59 years of marriage. They raised three children, Cheryl (Barry) Shelton, Cynthia (Mark) Bush, and Lawrence (Tricia) Weigand, and enjoyed the blessings of a large and loving family. Bill took great pride in his role as a father and grandfather, cherishing time with his grandchildren who he affectionately referred to as puppies: Olivia, Alicia (David), Brendan, Courtney, Bryce (Genella), Nicholas, and Luke, as well as his great-grandsons Jaydan and Darian.

Bill worked for many years in the field of computer science and quality, serving as a Computer Manager for General Motors at the Tech Center, Detroit Diesel Allison & Service Parts Operation, and later as a Manager in Quality Planning at EDS. Despite his professional achievements, Bill’s true legacy lies in his deep love for his family and the lessons he imparted to all who knew him. His dedication to mentoring his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews was steadfast, and he found joy in sharing his love for Algebra, personal investments, and life’s wisdom with them.

An avid animal lover, Bill’s heart was always open to his dogs, starting with Jimmy, his Grandma Weigand’s dog, and continuing with the many beloved dogs that were part of his home. He often referred to them as members of the family and delighted in their companionship.

In his free time, Bill loved boating on the lake, gambling at the casino, and managing his personal investments. He also found great joy in connecting with people, often speaking at family and friend’s funerals, where he would share stories, memories, and humor that honored the lives of those departed.

Bill leaves behind his beloved wife Connie, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many other family members and friends whose lives were enriched by his warmth, generosity, and wisdom. He is also survived by his lifelong best friend David Sluschewski, who, along with his family, was considered part of Bill’s own family.

A man of integrity, humor, and kindness, Bill’s impact on those who knew him will not be forgotten. He was loved and will be greatly missed.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 7296 Gale Rd. Grand Blanc, Michigan 48439 on Thursday, May 15, 2025, with visitation starting at 10:00 AM, a remembrance mass at 11:00 AM, and a luncheon to follow.
