ABNEY, Jimmy Clay – of Flint, MI, age 86, passed away Saturday, September 11, 2021. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Pastor Curtis Lilly officiating. Burial immediately following the service in Gracelawn Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 12-7 PM Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Allen Funeral Home. There will also be visitation an hour before the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in Jimmy’s memory.
Jimmy was born in Doddsville, Mississippi on November 3, 1934, son of the late Bill and Lallie (Staggs) Abney. He married Betty Lou Cunningham in 1953 and she preceded him in death on August 16, 2003, just a few months before their 50th wedding anniversary. Jimmy retired from General Motors in 1982 after 30 years of service. After retirement, Jimmy and Betty were snowbirds in Leesburg, FL where he enjoyed fishing, shuffleboard and playing cards. They spent the summers in Harrison, MI where they enjoyed camping with family and friends.
Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Kaye (Larry) Jankowski; 4 grandchildren, Natasha (Nick) Edgar, Nicholas Howard, Christopher Costanzo and Lanesha Brannon; 2 great-grandchildren, Natalie Edgar and Nathan Edgar; 3 siblings, Joyce Williams, Bobby Abney and Billy Abney; special niece, Connie Cannon; cousin and good friend, Tom Abel; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Lallie Abney; his wife, Betty Lou Abney; 2 sons, Paul Abney and David Abney; daughter, Robin Abney; 2 siblings, Danny Abney and Douglas “Duck” Abney.
