Carroll L. (Leek-Como) Hoops, 74, of Davison, Michigan, passed away on July 31, 2026, at McLaren Medical Center after a valiant battle with cancer. Born on July 18, 1952, in New Madrid, Missouri, Carroll’s life began in the place where she was born, but it soon became rooted in Michigan, where she was brought with her family to Flint shortly after birth.
Carroll graduated from Northern High School in 1970, marking an important milestone in the life she was steadily building. That same year, she married Peter Como. Through the years, Carroll devoted herself first and foremost to her family, choosing to stay at home so she could raise her three children.
After her children were grown, Carroll went to work as a Dietary Aide in the nursing home. It was a role that spoke to her willingness to serve others in quiet, meaningful ways. Even as she took on work outside the home, the values that guided her remained the same: care, responsibility, and devotion to the people around her.
Carroll’s proudest and greatest joy was her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Kellie Como Thompson, Christine and Jeffrey Ex, and Jason Como. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Alexis Como (Buddy London), Connor Como (Madilynn Dunsmore), Paige Thompson, Malachi Kannai, Elijah Ex, Everett Ex, and great granddaughter Kennedy Como. The love she gave them was steady and lasting, and it will remain part of them always.
Carroll also enjoyed the simple pleasure of going to the casino, a pastime that brought her enjoyment and added a bit of fun to her life. Her final trip to the casino was with family for her grandson Elijah’s 18th birthday and will be a treasured memory as she was able to teach Elijah the secrets to her winning ways and ended with her winning a major jackpot. She also enjoyed bowling, dinners, and shopping with her family.
She was the daughter of Harold and Irene Leek and treasured her 5 siblings Sandra (Dallas) Dotson, Tony Leek, Kathie (Mel) Huntley, Lloyd (Johnnie) Leek and Randy Leek. Carroll had many nieces and nephews and was proud to let friends know she had over 100 first cousins. Carroll was especially grateful for the friendship with her cousin Sue Dean and grateful for care received from her sister-in-law Johnnie and her lifelong friend JoAnne McCann. She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Irene, her sister Sandra and brothers Tony and Randy, and brother-in-law Dallas.
The family wishes to publicly recognize the caring staff of the 8th Floor at McLaren Medical Center and Karmanos Cancer Institute for the care provided for her.
