VERHEYN, Donald F. – of Flint, age 82, passed away August 27, 2014 at Melody Care Home. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held 4 PM Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. Rev. Harold K. Polk, Jr officiating. Visitation will be from 11 AM until time of service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Genesee County.

Donald was born in Holyoke, MA on October 2, 1931, son of the late Marcel and Gladys (Sorel) Verheyn. He married Madeline Driscoll on November 7, 1953 in Pittsfield, MA. Donald was known for his quick wit and one-liners. He loved fishing, hunting, bowling, golfing and gardening. At one time he had 90 rose bushes, including one that was previously his mother-in-law’s. He served his country with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Donald owned and operated Delta Wholesale Tire Company which is now owned by son-in-law, Mike Crittenden and daughter, Karen.

Donald is survived by his wife of 60 years, Madeline; daughters, Peggy Walt and Karen (Mike) Crittenden; grandchildren, Jacob and Claire Walt, Jodi and Kurtis Sturk and Katleyn Crittenden; sister, Joan Wellington; best friend, Billy “Depot” Turkovics. He was preceded in death by his sister, Connie; brother, David Verheyn. The family would like to say a special thank you to Melody Care Home and their great staff, Dee, Bertha, Kim and Larry.
