FLORIDA, Joel “Joe” - Of Fenton, age 74, died Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at his residence.
Funeral service will be held 11am Monday, April 9, 2018 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Rev. Jeff Jaggers officiating.
Cremation will take place following the service.
Visitation 4-8pm Friday and 12-7pm Saturday at the funeral home followed by a Memorial Service under the auspices of Genesee Lodge #174 F.&A.M. at 7pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Old Newsboys.
Joel was born on May 24, 1943, the son of Joel and Margaret (Couchman) Florida. On April 10, 1982, he married Susan Rebecca Horvath. Joel retired from the City of Flint as a Police Officer. He was a Right Worshipful Grand Chaplain Emeritus, a Shrine Clown Unit “Holey Joe”. Joel was President of Old Newsboys of Flint, receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award. He was an Official Santa of the City of Flint. Joel was a member of Fenton United Methodist Church where he was an Usher and a member of United Methodist Men. Joel was also a member of Masonic Lodge #23 Fellowship #490 and #174.
Surviving are wife, Susan;
Children, Stephen Timcoe (Sherry Sutton), Elizabeth Javello, Melissa (Troy) Wallace-Hoose, Amy (Bill) Lang, David (Lyne) Florida and Amber Naganashe;
Siblings, Robert (Clara), David (Janice), Thomas (Verna) and John Florida;
sister-in-law, Karen Florida;
grandchildren, Lexi Law, Amy Walker, Audra, Nicole, and Andrew Gonzalez, Savannah Javello, Benjamin Wallace, Ashton Hoose, Nick, Autumn and Harley Lang, Neena Erwin, Rebecca and Jake Florida, Emily and Dakota Naganashe, Stephen Nelson;
Great-grandchildren, Jack Wuorenma, Logan and Lily Lang, Cameron and Cooper Erwin, Selene Sullivan and Paola Gonzalez-Zuniga.
He was preceded in death by parents, Joel and Margaret (Couchman) Florida, sister Margaret (Peggy) Grove, brothers, William, James, Mike and Sam Florida,
