Barbara Beryl Atherton
Age 86, of East Tawas, Michigan died at her home on Sunday, August 2, 2026. She was born the daughter of Wayne and Pauline (Roads) Forystek on April 3, 1940, in Flint, Michigan. Barbara grew up in Mt. Morris, Michigan and later lived in Newark, Delaware and the Florida Keys before moving to the Tawas area in 2011. She was a Salvation Army Red Kettle Bellringer. Barbara enjoyed spending countless hours in her beautifully manicured garden, she was an avid bird watcher, she enjoyed baking, antiquing and was a loving care giver to all. She loves NASCAR and especially being #1 fan to her nephew Carson Hocevar an American professional stock car driver, she was so proud of him and loved watching him in his races. Barbara is survived by her daughters; Kim (Don) Smith and Kelly Atherton, siblings; Tom Forystek, Janet Elliott, Nancy Bronson (Bob), Gale (Bob) Dodge, grandchildren, Don Jr. and Tony, great grandchildren; Devin, Dawson, Tony and Elle Smith, nieces and nephews; Steve, Jan, Debbie, Tim, Brad, Bobbie, Linda, Amy, Dan, Mary Ann, Tommy, Kevin, David, Andy, and goddaughter Jennifer. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, siblings; Shirley (Elmer) Lund, Robert Forysek, Wayne Jay (Betty) Forystek. Per her wishes cremation has taken place and a graveside memorial service will be held at a later date. The family would like to give thanks to all of mom’s friends and neighbors for always being there to help her. We appreciate all you did for her.
