Clifford was born in Flint, Michigan, to Cecil and Harriette (Gilson) Hiteshew. He received his education locally and graduated from Beecher High School with the Class of 1965. Following graduation, on September 23, 1966, Clifford enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Answering his call to duty, Lance Corporal Hiteshew was deployed to Vietnam. During his time in service, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze star, the Presidential Unit Citation, and the Purple Heart - on November 7, 1967, Clifford was wounded in combat when he sustained shrapnel injuries throughout his body. Clifford will be remembered for his service to his country.

Upon returning home to Flint, Clifford continued his recovery. In recognition of his service and sacrifice, he was named Veteran of the Year in 1968 and received the Key to the City. He was also a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, Goodrich-Skidmore Chapter #122.

Clifford met the love of his life, Eva Norris, and the two fell in love before being united in marriage on March 7, 1975, in Flint. Sadly, Eva preceded him in death on March 2, 2007. Clifford continued his education at Baker College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business, graduating with honors in 1978. He later worked in the Trust Department at Citizens Bank for more than 20 years before retiring. Clifford enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling out west, and going to the movies. He also had a passion for automobiles, particularly working on and restoring cars and attending car shows. In his younger years, he fondly remembered being an outgoing, good-looking young man who enjoyed playing football and running track.

Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Chuck Hiteshew and wife, Bonnie; his sister, Sharon McCartney; his sister-in-law, Mary Hiteshew; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.

Clifford was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 31 years, Eva Hiteshew; his parents; his brother, Barry Hiteshew; and his brother-in-law, Robert McCartney.
