LONG, Russel J. – Of Burton, age 86, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at McLaren-Flint.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2014 at the
Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Edward Borycz officiating.
Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Those desiring may make contributions to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.
Visitation 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 1 p.m. Friday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Russel was born in Lennon, MI on July 8, 1928, the son of Ralph and Ruia (St.John) Long.
He married Janice E. Stoutenburg on April 5, 1958.
He was a member of Farnumwood Presbyterian Church where he was a Deacon. He was also a member at St. Andrews Presbyterian in Davison.
Russel was a graduate of Owosso High School and served in the U.S. Army from January, 1949 - January, 1952. He was a member of NARFE and the Flint Genealogy Society.
Mr. Long was employed as a Clerk at the U.S. Post Office for 27 years, retiring in 1987.
Surviving are his sons, David and wife Teri Long of Canton, Scott Long of Burton;
granddaughters, Monica Lidster and Melissa (Dan) Graham;
sisters and brothers-in-law, Arleda and Bruce Acre,
Robert and Michile Stoutenburg and Marilyn Stoutenburg;
special niece, Melinda and Tim Hager;
several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews of both his and his wife's family;
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice, on June 11, 2014 and his parents; sisters, Alta and husband Clarence Horsley and Luella and Chet Hudson; brothers, Wayne Long and Lynn Long; sister-in-law, Althea Ondovcsik; brothers-in-law, William Stoutenburg and Darwin Stoutenburg.
