Melvin E. “Gene” Koble, 78, of Bettendorf, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am, Monday, January 3, 2011 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 10-11:30 am Monday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. Online condolences may be made at www.rungemortuary.com.
Gene was born December 30, 1932 in Osceola, Iowa, the son of Ross and Elsie (Nine) Koble. On November 19, 1960, he married June A. Lundgren in Davenport. She preceded him in death on August 31, 2010.
He retired as a Safety Education Officer with the Iowa State Patrol in 1988, after more than thirty years of service. Following that, he was employed at North High School as a security officer and also worked in Special Education, retiring in 2002. Gene was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Those left to honor his memory are a daughter, Krisan Koble, a son Gregory Koble, granddaughters Brittany and Erica; a sister, Carolyn Staub; and two beloved dogs, Doodle and Marshall.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael and three brothers: Ralph, Merle, and Dale.
