Age 68, of Owosso, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 20th at 11:00 a.m. at Nelson House Funeral Home in Owosso, with Pastor Debbie Grazier officiating. Ross was born May 11, 1957, in Owosso, Michigan, the son of Billy Ross Stanley and Joan (Reid-Stanley) Clark. He attended Salem Lutheran School, graduated from Owosso High School and went on to receive an associates degree in Auto Diesel Mechanics from Ferris State University.
Ross was a man full of life, laughter, and music. He loved the sound of old radios, the thrill of a Harley-Davidson ride, and the camaraderie that came with fighting fires. He found joy behind the DJ booth and karaoke microphone, where his raspy, soulful voice often carried the tunes of Bob Seger and John Cougar Mellencamp.
Ross proudly served his community as an Auto Mechanic at Al Bennett Ford followed by dedicating 16 years as a lieutenant, mechanic, and paramedic with the City of Owosso Fire Department. After retiring, he continued to give back through his work in campus security at Baker College. On weekends, he could often be found spinning records at weddings or events. He loved bringing people together through music.
Above all, Ross was a family man. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, nephew, and uncle who deeply cherished his children and grandchildren. He married the love of his life, Valerie Jane Davis, on
September 27, 2003, and together they built a home full of laughter, love, and countless memories.
Ross is survived by his loving wife, Valerie Stanley; children Tony (Kayci) Stanley, Emily (Ryan) Koyne, Brent (Meredith) Morrice, Christie Carpenter (Kevin Rockwell), Rob (Kim) Sprague, and Frank Sprague; grandchildren Audrey Vance, Adelaide Koyne, Bradley Koyne, Jack Carpenter, Evelyn Carpenter, Grant Sprague, Mariah Sprague, and Danielle Temple; brother Doug (Lynn) Stanley; sister Mitzi Kuhns; sister-in-law Lori Ryan, special niece Jessica (Tim) Fegel; aunts Mary Long and Fran Reid; as well as great-grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews, special friends, and many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents Billy Ross Stanley and Joan Clark, stepfather Bill Clark, father-in- law Don Davis, mother-in-law Marie Davis, brother-in-law Mark Davis, sister-in-law Julie Nixon, brother-in-law Doug Kuhns, and uncle Bill Reid.
Ross will be remembered for his big heart, his love of music, and his unwavering devotion to his family and community. His presence will be deeply missed, but the love and laughter he shared will live on in all who knew him.
