COMPTON, Gary Laird – of Au Gres, formerly of Millington, age 67 passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at Mid-Michigan Medical Center in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Honoring Gary’s wishes cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00PM until 4:00PM at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3589 in Davison, Michigan. Military Honors will take place at 1:30 PM at the Eagles Club. Memorial contributions can be made to the Clio VFW Post #1452 Honor Guard.
Gary was born June 8, 1951 in Flint, Michigan to Marion and Jean (Laird) Compton. He was raised in Genesee, Michigan and graduated from Genesee High School with the class of 1969. Gary served his country in the US Army from 1970 to 1972 in Vietnam War as Crew Chief on the helicopters. On July 7, 1972 he married Shirley F. Pyland in Lacey, Washington. He was a member of the American Legion Post #104 in Standish, Michigan, Tawas Moose Club # 2400 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 2588 in Tawas, Michigan. He enjoyed boating, snowmobiling, motorcycling, tinkering in his garage, and drinking beer on the beach.
Surviving are: Wife of 46 years, Shirley; Sons, Eric (Karrie) Compton, Brent (Julia Hayden) Compton; Grandchildren, Cassie Compton, Mick Compton; Siblings, Ken (Clarice) Compton, Marlene (John) Pilon, Jim (Tressa) Compton; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
