Harrington, Phyllis Gertrude (Williams) of Flint, age 93, died Monday, October 17, 2016. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Woodside Church, 1509 E. Court St. Flint. Reverend Dr. Deborah Conrad officiating. Visitation will be at the church Monday, October 31, 2016 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made in Phyllis’ name to Woodside Church.
Phyllis was born September, 1923 in Flint. She was a member of Woodside Church for over 60 years. She attended Central High School and was active with the alumni, planning class reunions. She married Robert Harrington on August 5, 1942. Robert preceded her in death in 2007. Phyllis was an artist and member of the Left Bank Gallery. She was an activist for civil rights and peace; she marched in Washington, D.C. Phyllis was a Girl Scout leader for her daughter and on the Fair Winds Council. She worked at the International Institute, the Flint YWCA and then retired from St. Joseph Hospital. She loved Flint, volunteering for many organizations throughout her life to improve human relations and conditions in her city.
Surviving her are: son Robert (Laurie) Harrington Jr. of Carol Stream IL, daughter Sandra Harrington (Barry) Greanya of McCormick SC, Bonnie (Norm) Kern of Birmingham MI. Also surviving her are 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Phyllis was also preceded in death by her brother Charles Williams, DDS and her son Larry Harrington.
