Marie Annette Knapp, of Chesaning, passed away peacefully with her children by her side, on September 4, 2026, at the age of 68.
Marie was born in Saginaw, Michigan, the daughter of Anthony Mitas and Dorothy (Bucholz) Mitas. she graduated from Chesaning High School in 1975. She later attended Delta College, where she studied secretarial work and typewriting.
In May 1985, Marie married Gregory Knapp. Throughout her career, she worked as a secretary at St. Charles Middle School for 39 years, becoming a familiar and friendly face to generations of students, families, and coworkers. She retired in 2015/2016.
Marie found happiness in the simple things and was always ready for an adventure. She loved shopping, thrifting, antiquing, and spending time at garage sales, never knowing what special treasure she might find. She especially enjoyed collecting ceramic chickens. At home, Marie loved cooking and canning, particularly tomatoes, and she enjoyed giving away the things she made to others. Marie was a warm, outgoing woman whose easygoing personality, contagious laughter, and love for others made her a joy to be around. A true social butterfly, Marie seemed to know everyone and treasured the many friendships she made throughout her life.
Music and dancing also brought Marie great joy, especially classic rock. She remained close with a special group of friends from her high school years, friendships that continued to mean a great deal to her throughout her life.
Above all else, Marie cherished her family, especially her grandchildren. Those who knew her will remember a woman who was easygoing, fun-loving, always laughing, and genuinely happy to be around others. Her big personality and ability to make friends wherever she went made her someone people naturally gravitated toward.
Marie is survived by her children, Seth (Kimberly) Knapp, Brittany (Matt) Hofmann, and Cody (Mackenzie) Knapp; grandchildren, Riley, Talon, Daniel, Myla, and Addy; grand fur-babies, Baxter, Ellie Mae, Poco, and Cricket; sister, Beverly (Mark) Kosin; sister-in-law, Macine (Frank) Schmidt; brother-in-law, Ray Schwan; many nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gregory Knapp; parents, Anthony and Dorothy Mitas; and sister-in-law, Gayle Schwan.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026 from 1PM until 8PM at McGeehan Funeral Home - St. Charles Chapel. A Memorial Service will take place on Friday, September 11, 2026 at 12PM, with visitation one hour before the service at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made to Marie's family. |
