Craig was born on November 4, 1944, and spent the majority of his life in Fenton, Michigan. He was the youngest son of the late Roy and Florence Horning and grew up on Lake Fenton alongside his brothers, Gary and Reginald. During his high school years, Craig was an avid swimmer and football player, setting the stage for a life filled with energy, humor, and heart. On June 29, 1963, Craig married his high school sweetheart, Carol Jean Rodgers. Together they shared 59 years of marriage before Carol preceded him in death in 2022. Craig was a devoted and loving husband, as well as a caring and playful father to their four children. Craig proudly supported his family through a 45-year career with General Motors. Beginning in Tool & Die at the Fisher Body Plant in Grand Blanc, he later served many years as a Supervisor before finishing his career as an Engineer. Known affectionately by his coworkers as “Nutsy,” Craig was remembered for his jokester ways and strong work ethic, and he took great pride in his career.

Craig and Carol cherished their retirement years at Canada Creek Ranch in Atlanta, Michigan. Craig stayed active and fulfilled by being deeply involved in the ranch community and spending his days outdoors-swimming, snowmobiling, hunting, foraging, watching wildlife, and building an oasis for his family to enjoy for generations to come. Their northern home became a place filled with joy and laughter, shared with their six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Together, Craig and Carol loved passing on their appreciation for the outdoors, often with their beloved Golden Retrievers, Murphy and Deeks, by their side.

Craig is survived by his children: Fr. Roy Horning, Donald Horning, Craig (Christy) Horning Jr., and Jo (Don) Schofield; his eight grandchildren: Courtenay (John) Oros, Becca (Austin) Butcher, Hayley (Joe) Wernet, Dennis Horning, Craig Horning III, Dylan Horning, Corey Horning and Tyler (Nicole) Horning; and his three great-grandchildren: Jaxson and Charlotte Oros, and Tessa Wernet. He is also survived by his brother, Reginald Horning, and his loyal companion, Deeks.

Craig was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Florence Horning; his brother, Gary Horning; his beloved wife, Carol; and his treasured best friend and snowmobiling co-pilot, Murphy.

The Horning family would like to thank Angel Manor of Clio for their extraordinary care and peace they brought to Craig and our family. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
