FISHER, John W. Age 90, of Grand Blanc, MI passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 10th 2014. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Friday, November 14, 2014 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 706 Beach St. Flint, MI. 48502. Rev. Fr. Ronald Scheible, O.S.A. and Monsignor Thomas Johnson officiating. Burial in New Calvary Cemetery. He will remain at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, where visitation will be on Thursday Nov. 13th from 2 until 8 PM, with a Rosary said at 7 pm.

Mr. Fisher was born in Flint, MI. on June 11, 1924, the son of John Fisher and Mary (Brown) Fisher and has been a life-long resident. He was a member of St. Matthew and St. John Vianney Catholic Parish. He graduated from Central High School in 1942, and after a year at Michigan Tech, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during WWII. He graduated from the University of Michigan with an Undergraduate degree in Business Administration and Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering.

He started his career at JC Penny Co. in Owosso, then went on to work for General Motors for over 30 years, retiring in 1991. He began at AC and Buick, but the bulk of his career was being a Professor of Industrial Engineering at General Motors Institute (Kettering University).
His greatest joys were his family, his faith, sports, and reading. He enjoyed tennis at Flint Tennis Club and Flint Swim and Racquet Club where he was a member for many years. He loved vacationing in Southampton, Ontario with his family. He also had a passion for books and learning.
Surviving are: wife, Mary Ellen (Baker) Fisher; son John Fisher (Kim); daughters Mary Grace Butts (Ken); Martha Lichty (Curt); and Jane Hogan (Padraig); grandchildren: Grace, John, Dean, and Bryan Butts; John and Joshua Fisher; Joseph, Daniel, and Graham Lichty; and Tom Hogan; brother, Robert Fisher of Frankfort, MI; sister-in-law, Martha Hopkins and brother-in-law, Bryan Baker Jr., both of Flint, MI; several nieces and nephews. Donations may be made to St. Matthew Catholic Church on his behalf in lieu of flowers, if desired.
