George Daniel Flynn

Born: 12/24/1940
Died: 4/8/2025
Age: 84
Community: Perry, MI

George Daniel Flynn was born to Clem and Betty Flynn of Morrice, Michigan on December 24, 1940. He was 84 years old when he passed away with his family by his side.

George lived by the words of Walt Disney, "Life is beautiful. It's about giving. It's about family." He was an extremely intelligent man who knew that the boundaries of family don’t start and end with blood. Together, he and the love of his life, Judy, built a beautiful family with three daughters and a son. However, they had far too many gifts to give and too much love for such a “small” family. Together, they welcomed many, many children into their hearts and home throughout their more than seventy years together. George and his wife and children have positively impacted the lives of hundreds of Corunna students in the Odyssey of the Mind program. In their forty-plus years of coaching, they taught these young people how to solve problems, work together, create beauty in the world around them, and to be genuinely good people. George believed in teaching others by example, always being the man he wanted his “children” to be, even when he thought no one was looking.

George spent many years working for General Motors, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. It didn’t take long for his bosses to recognize his leadership and problem solving skills. He took pride in the work he did and was well loved and respected by his colleagues. In his free time, George loved to be with his wife and family. He loved to play games and travel, especially to warm weather (the family’s cabin in Tawas in the summer and Florida in the winter). In fact, George’s last wish before he passed, was to take his family to Disney, a trip they will remember for a lifetime.

If George’s life were a lesson for those blessed enough to call him “dad,” “grandpa,” “friend,” or “Mr. Flynn” they would have learned that every moment of life is precious and any moment upset or angry is a moment wasted. They would have learned that surrounding yourself with people you love and giving back to others by doing what you love, is what living is all about.

George is survived by his wife Judy (Mitchell) Flynn; his children Pamela (Kirby) Jones, Tracy (Bud) Harris, Daniel (Kristy) Flynn, Jamie Jo (Josh Koester) Sanderson; and his grandchildren Alan Jones and Alex Sanderson. He is also survived by his brothers John (Melinda) Flynn and Andy (Rita) Flynn; sister-in-laws Janet Flynn, Beverley (Stan) Jagodzinski, and Rosemary (Bob Cooley) Johnson; many nieces and nephews; and his chosen family Clara (Jerry) Swihart, Shauna (Jodi Borowicz) Swantek, and his extended Odyssey of the Mind family. He is predeceased by his parents Clem and Betty Flynn, his brothers Richard and Michael Flynn, his in-laws Floyd and Dorothy Mitchell, and his son-in-law Kevin Sanderson.
